Francois from Ocean Conservation Namibia spotted this entangled seal pup while driving past a group of seals. Him, Denzil and Naude decided to crawl in to check it they could catch and free him.
When they were with striking distance, the pup was still fast asleep. Usually a pup this size can easily be caught be hand, but experience has taught them that there are few things are unpredictable as a sleeping seal that suddenly gets woken up. Their first instinct is to strike out, and unless the guys have a really good grip on him, this could easily result in a bite, and for this reason Naude called for the net at the last second.
The pup was entangled in some thick commercial fishing line, and luckily had not sustained any serious injury yet from it. He was upset about being rudely awoken, but it was a small price to pay:) 🦭
