▪ I Tried Carnivore For a Month | My Surprising Results ▪
For those of you who have been following me you know, I did a month-long carnivore experiment. I wanted to throw a video together to bring you along the journey and share my results.
I started out with taking some baseline measurements. I did a DXA and InBody Scan. While the DXA is really good at looking at fat mass and lean body mass the InBody took into account total body water. My starting body fat was 9.3% and my ECW (extracellular water) was .365. I also got blood work done at Spectra Wellness Solutions with Dr. Lisa Koche.
ONE WEEK UPDATE:
So far carnivore has been pretty good to me. I got all my tests including my deuterium depletion done (which I’ll touch more on in Part 2). This week I was with my good friends Suzanne Ryan and Josh Perry. We went to a Brazillian Steakhouse and that made things a lot easier. I’ve been having some really good meals. I’m eating about 1 to 2 times a day. Drinking water without MIO or anything added has been an adjustment. The only big challenge was with my digestion. It took about 3 days to have a bowel movement, so I noticed those have been less frequent. I’m looking into supplementing with more magnesium. I prepped all of my meals for next week, we’ve got beef wrapped in bacon and grass-fed grass-finished steaks from Butcher Box.
TWO WEEK UPDATE:
Two weeks strong on carnivore. This week I made a heavy emphasis on incorporating liver, which I normally don’t do. I got an idea from my good friend Danny Vega to chop it up and incorporate it in with ground beef - it’s actually pretty good. Definitely, am learning a lot. Unfortunately, they lost my NMR Lipid-Protein Profile test, but at least we’ll still be able to see some stuff at the end.
FOUR WEEK UPDATE:
Today marks four weeks on carnivore. I hopped on the scale before my DXA and was down a few pounds. My DXA results were interesting. My body fat stayed the same and I lost about 1/2 of a kilo of fat mass and also a little over a kilo of lean body mass. A lot of it could be glycogen differences and hydration status, but it will be interesting to see what the InBody says. I trained just as hard during the month. I did travel so that could factor into it. I also wasn’t eating as frequently as I normally do. These would all be things I would consider changing If I were to do it again.
INBODY RESULTS COMPARISON:
Body Fat % Before: 9.3%
Body Fat % After: 8%
Skeletal Muscle Mass Before: 96.8 lbs
Skeletal Muscle Mass After: 96.6
ECW Before: .365
ECW After: .362
According to these results from the InBody, I didn’t lose any muscle mass. I’m feeling good, my performance in the gym didn’t suffer, and I lost some body fat.
WANT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY BLOOD WORK? A LOT MORE TO TALK ABOUT. STAY TUNED FOR PART 2.
