Why Temperature Matters for Strong Plastic Welds
This video demonstrates how weld temperature directly impacts the strength of PVC plastic welds. Nitrogen welding is one of the fastest and strongest methods for plastic repair, but using the wrong temperature can seriously reduce weld strength.
PVC is a particularly heat-sensitive plastic. Welding it at too high a temperature can scorch the material, even when using nitrogen gas. In this demonstration, we compare welds made at the recommended temperature with those made at a higher-than-recommended setting. Both welds were tested using a tension tester, and the results were clear: welds made at the proper temperature delivered a significantly higher peak load than those welded too hot.
To achieve strong, reliable welds, always use the recommended welder settings. When it comes to plastic welding, hotter is not always better!
