STEP 1) Get the clay ready to use. If we do not have clay to work with, how can we make?
Is the clay either: prepared to use or needs to be prepared.
Learning to prepare clay equals weeks of practice to master the technique called wedging the clay, if you are visiting Art Wheel for 2 hrs. We are going to skip that step and use prepared clay. I will give a short demo and discuss some techniques for wedging the clay.
Prepared clay is free is completely homogenous and void of air inclusions. We you visit Art Wheel we will supply you with pre-wedged prepared clay.
Why no inclusions? Air bubbles in the clay will cause you pots to explode, shatter or come apart.
We will make 6-8 balls of clay to practice with. We need to consider size, quantity and condition when forming the balls of clay. Why 6-8 balls of clay? 1.0 we can only use each ball of clay one time them it goes into the recycle pile. You will use a fresh ball every time. We want you to gain experience with repeated practice. You should on start with a fresh ball of clay about every 10 minutes.
Every 10 minutes start again
Size? Medium and small vs: large
Condition? One time only, fresh clay every time
