I’ve always been inspired by the classics—Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Fist of the North Star, Gundam, and Dragon Ball Z. So I challenged myself:
Can I recreate that old-school anime feel using today’s AI tools?
Here’s how I did it ⬇️
🖊️ Started with my own original character sketch
🤖 Used ChatGPT to help develop full character views (front, side, back)
🏙️ Built anime-style backgrounds & alternate angles in Runway using the reference tool
✨ Upscaled each frame with Topaz Labs Bloom
🖌️ Retouched visuals in Photoshop
🎙️ Added voice acting with HeyGen (I even voiced the monster myself 👹)
🎬 Re-animated for more dynamic motion in Runway
📽️ Brought it all together in Premiere Pro
There were some bumps, sure — but that’s the beauty of AI-assisted animation:
It removes the friction and frees up space for pure creative flow.
