Zanele Ngubeni is the Director of Defender Development at Gideon’s Promise. In this video she describes the role that the Gideon v. Wainwright Supreme Court ruling had within the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. Many people in the United States are familiar with Brown v. Board, but far less are familiar with Gideon v. Wainwright. This video explains the invaluable affect that Clarence Earl Gideon had on the future of the judicial system and how Gideon’s Promise continues to play an integral role in continuing his legacy to make our criminal legal system a more equal and just institution.
