Torasemide is a diuretic. The maximum diuretic effect occurs 2-3 hours after oral administration. Torasemide can be used long-term. Torasemide causes hypokalemia to a lesser extent than furosemide, but is more active and has a longer-lasting effect. Torasemide is indicated for edema of various origins, including chronic heart failure; liver, kidney, and lung diseases; and hypertension.
