Knowledge of the genetic background is crucial for the interpretation of experiments involving animals. For example, a transgene can be lethal in one mouse line, but not lethal in another line. The tools for the analysis of the genetic background of mice have improved significantly over the last few years and now include a variety of SNP panels. This webinar described how to use them in a situation such as importation of a line, backcrossing and routine maintenance of a line.
