The Personality of Prince Vladimir
As we explore history, we will become acquainted with Vladimir Svyatoslavich (the Baptist, the Saint, the Great), the son of Svyatoslav Igorevich and Malusha, and the grandson of Princess Olga. He was an outstanding ruler of Rus' who carried out a grand religious reform in 988.
The subject of our research will be the personality of this prince. We will examine the life of Vladimir the pagan, who inspired fear and terror in the population and his entourage, and another Vladimir, popularly known as the Red Sun, a ruler who converted to Orthodoxy and lived by Christian moral standards.
We will meet Yaropolk, Rogvolod, Rogneda, Anna of Byzantium, Svyatopolk the Accursed, Yaroslav (the Wise), Theodore and John, Boris and Gleb. Together with Vladimir I, we will journey through the purification of a sinner and the accession of a righteous man.
