How to layer samples and boom bap drums in order to make a hard hitting boom bap type beat. In this video I'm making a dope grimy sample boom bap beat in Ableton Live 11 and sharing some secrets as to how to layer samples and drum breaks. Learning how to make grimy boom bap beats by chopping and layering samples doesn't need to be a challenge. You just need to listen, analyze and train your ears. I recorded this video to show you that it can actually be quite simple to come up with a dope soulful chops, layering, drums and a full hip hop type beat if you follow my simple tutorial in Ableton Live 11.
In this tutorial I go over how you can successfully layer sample chops, drums and how to make a full grimy boom bap type beat. I also touch on how to arrange and layer instruments to make your beats more interesting. Studying songs is a great way to achieve the original boom bap style in your beats similar to what the Wu and Griselda might rap over. I think anyone from Griselda or the Wu Tang Clan would bar up on this hard boom bap type beat instrumental.
Although this beat was created in Ableton Live 11 you can use the same methods and ideas in any DAW. Including Maschine, Akai MPC, Logic, Pro Tools, FL Studio and literally any other program you can think of. Hip Hop is Hip Hop no matter how it is created!
