In this video, I discuss how to make a boom bap type beat, layer melodies/one shots and how to turn them into simple, hard and grimy beats that anyone from Griselda (Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine and Westside Gunn) might rap over. In this video I'm making a dope grimy boom bap beat in Ableton Live 11. Learning how to make original boom bap beats by layering sounds and samples doesn't need to be a challenge. You just need to study the instruments and aesthetic that you want to achieve. I recorded this video to show you that it can actually be quite simple to come up with a dope classic hip hop beat for boom bap rappers like Griselda (Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine and Westside Gunn). This style hip hop type beat can be achieved if you follow my simple tutorial in Ableton Live 11.

In this tutorial I go over how you can successfully create a grimy boom bap sounding melody to turn into an instrumental for boom bap rappers. I also touch on how to arrange and layer instruments to make your beats more interesting. Studying songs is a great way to achieve the original boom bap style in your beats similar to what Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine or Westside Gunn might rap on. I think anyone from Griselda would bar up on this boom bap type beat instrumental.

Although this beat was created in Ableton Live 11 you can use the same methods and ideas in any DAW. Including Maschine, Akai MPC, Logic, Pro Tools, FL Studio and literally any other program you can think of. Hip Hop is Hip Hop no matter how it is created!
