Imagine #CPAP + Pressure Support Ventilation (CPAP + PSV) as a cycling buddy who gives you a consistent push whenever you start pedaling, but steps in to take over if you stop.
In this mode, the ventilator provides a steady support pressure as soon as you initiate a breath. It’s designed for spontaneously breathing patients who want control over their own rate, depth, and timing, with the clinician setting the pressure support and PEEP levels for added assistance.
If you don’t start a breath within a certain delay period, the ventilator automatically takes over, delivering pressure-controlled breaths to ensure you stay on pace with the minimum set rate. The pressure support (Psupport) and inspiratory pressure (Pinsp) are linked, so adjusting one will update the other for seamless support.
On the ventilator display, spontaneous breaths appear in a different color, showing your independent efforts. Settings like Trigger Window, Rise Rate, Flow Trigger, and End of Breath are all active, fine-tuning the ventilator's response to match your natural rhythm.
In essence, CPAP + PSV gives you freedom to breathe on your own, while ensuring backup support if needed—like a cycling partner who’s there whenever you need a boost!
