Russia's Long-Term Plan for Europe
I grew up when the Soviet Union tried to influence Western Europe by moving assets into Western countries. Has this practice stopped? I think there is reasonable evidence to support the claim that Russia does continue to try to influence society, politics, and culture beyond its borders. Since the Tartar invasions of the 1200s, Russia has developed a geopolitical strategy of expansion while at the same time having a culture that is xenophobic or at least Western skeptic. Projecting itself to its own populous as something unique or special rather than being integrated into the community of peaceful democracies. Its covert operations might include planting agents in countries it considers not friendly to its vision of extending the Russian sphere of influence.
