The centrifugal separator drum is controlled by water. It's convenient, simple, and most importantly, inexpensive. How do you supply water from a static frame to a rotating drum? It's very simple, as no contact seals are required; centrifugal force is sufficient.
But how this water behaves once inside the drum is where complications arise, leading to misunderstandings and, as a rule, troubleshooting difficulties.
Remember, Engineer: the valve opens with water and closes with centrifugal force! This is important. Also, you need to somehow get rid of any residual control water in the channel to prevent the drum from opening again...
