Interview with Lorena Padilla director of Martinez - Popflick
An interview with Mexican filmmaker Lorena Padilla about her feature film "Martinez," a world premiere at the 2023 Miami International Film Festival. A romantic comedy about loneliness and emotional disconnection. Chilean actor Francisco Reyes (A Fantastic Woman) plays the title role. "Martinez" is a solitary expatriate living in an unnamed big city in Mexico. His sense of self comes undone when his overzealous supervisor Conchita (Martha Claudia Moreno) notifies him he is flagged for retirement. Even worse, she wants him to train his replacement, Pablo (Humberto Busto). Martinez finds solace in fantasizing about establishing a romance with his downstairs neighbor, but there is a problem: the woman died a few days before. Dark humor, surprising warmth, and great acting make "Martinez" a must-see, and Padilla is a female filmmaker to watch out for.
