Updated March 2022, Reset Mac OSX password using Single User Mode
First you need to enter Single User Mode. Reboot the Mac and hold down Command+S at boot to enter into the command line.
Run "fsck -fy"
Run "mount -uw /"
Run "passwd username"
KEEP IN MIND, "username" is the username of the account.
To find out, you can change directory to Users "cd users" then use ls to check the the files in the directory "ls -l"
