"Runnin' Down a Dream", co-written and recorded by Tom Petty, is a solo release in 1989 from his first solo album Full Moon Fever. The track achieved reasonable chart success, reaching #23 in Canada, the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and #3 on the U.S.Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart. The song shows Petty paying dues to his influences and nostalgic memories. It has been used in various media venues and sport events as well. Petty started running down his dream of being a rocker in 1961 when, at 11 years old, he met Elvis Presley in Florida where Elvis was working on the film Follow That Dream - a title Petty took to heart. Although Petty's solo work stirred some controversy among members of the Heartbreakers, most of them contributed to the album. A documentary Runnin' Down A Dream was released in 2007 chronicling the career of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
