Necessories Compact Fireplace Timelapse
It's actually a partial time-lapse, with pictures to completion. My battery died and I was too busy to replace it.
I first had a concrete slab and footing put in to extend my back patio and support the weight of the fireplace. The fireplace is only a little over 6' in height so I decided to build up the base a little with cafe rumblestone from Home Depot. I also added a couple layers to the last tier of the chimney to get the final height to just over 7'. With the same rumblestone I built a seating wall off to the side and a planter behind that to optimize the space. Rumblestone was considerably cheaper than buying more of the same stone from Necessories. About 1/4 of the price.
The Fireplace, Woodbox, and Hearth were all easy to assemble and I am very happy with the final product. My only recommendation would be to buy some kind of a silicon concrete caulk for in between the large bluestone pieces. They weren't flush because of the angle they were cut at and the caulking gives it a nice looking finish. The fireplace is now the staple of our backyard and it helped transform our patio into an outdoor living room.
After it was built I added some acrylic concrete sealer which gave it a permanent wet look and allowed the colors of the stone to be more dominant. We still plan to stain the concrete and do some more decor. I can post links to pictures once that is all complete.
