Why do child marriages persist on Jakarta’s coast?
Siti and Azizah are sisters who got married as teens. Arifudin is a fisherman struggling to make ends meet. The three of them live in a fishing community in north Jakarta—one of many in which child marriages are increasingly common in response to poverty and declining fish stocks. And the issue is only getting worse due to climate change.
