Astrophysicist Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell talks pulsars and radio telescopes on After Dark | 1989
Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered pulsars in 1967 while still a graduate student in radio astronomy at Cambridge. Her discovery became one of the most pioneering astronomical discoveries of the 20th century. However, when it came down to awarding the Nobel Prize for her discovery, it went to her mentor instead. Here’s a clip from when she appeared on the late night TV discussion show ‘After Dark’, sitting next to astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Whitley Strieber, who says he was abducted by aliens and taken into deep space.
