Moon Pulses is an enveloping musical meditation revealed in a flash of inspiration. Inspired by the intrepid productions of Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, and Robert Fripp and the playing of guitarists Neil Young and the Edge, Nick Millevoi—whose body of work spans harsh noise, brutal punk-jazz, free-jazz doo wop, and beat-heavy ’80s experimentalism, as well as credits alongside artists including Nels Cline, John Zorn, and Jamaaladeen Tacuma—has created a focused program of sonic bliss that’s just as likely to leave listeners transfixed by its warm glow as it is to guide them toward restful transcendence or provide a reflective soundtrack to an imaginary Werner Herzog film about water on the moon. Across its six tracks, pulsating ostinatos provoke elemental melodies, creating otherworldly textures that, by the end, slowly disintegrate until nothing is left but radiating musical ether.
