In this video, we see what starting Holder engines looked like in grandpa's day: When the starter was still an optional extra, the hand crank was standard equipment on every Holder. But even experienced crankers (the owner here certainly is) were sometimes powerless against the whims of the engine, which, depending on the weather and operating conditions, would start more or less easily. Especially in cold winters, you had to resort to a trick or two in the morning if you wanted the tractor to start promptly ;-)
