Optimize your Environment builds for 3D Modeling in Houdini

In this stream, we're adding some small vegetation and optimizing the environment. We’re looking to add more leafy plants to make the environment look more overgrown, and how we can optimize for the camera by moving scattered elements to focus our processing power in front of the camera.

Bryan is focusing on Houdini as a modeling package for environments (rather than pyro sims and particle sims and the traditional stuff you associate Houdini with) because it's a super powerful modeling package that doesn’t get the respect it deserves in that area. There’s also some stuff you can do in Houdini that would be near impossible to do elsewhere.

Meet your mentor: Award-winning VFX artist Bryan Bentley has worked at major studios like ILM, The Jim Henson Company, and Rhythm & Hues on movies such as Pacific Rim, Transformers 3 & 4, Rango (Oscar for Best Animated Film) and The Golden Compass (Academy Award for best visual effects). Bryan has held university teaching and professorship positions all over the world and is now CG Spectrum's 3D Modeling Department Head. His specialties include 3D Modeling, Rigging, Creature FX, Python Programming, Rigid Simulation and Geometry Fracturing for Destruction.
