Merle Haggard (April 6, 1937 - April 6, 2016) was one of the great song-writers and singers of American country music.

Inspired by Lefty Frizzell, Buck Owens, and Johnny Cash, and having lived a tough life of poverty and incarceration, Haggard wrote several exemplary prison songs, including this great death row ballad "Sing Me Back Home." The power of music should never be underestimated.
The photos are from a fire ravaged forest in Ottawa's west end.
