"When I first started learning ballet, a slender, “PERFECT” body with excellent proportions was what I thought a dancer should look like.
But with “imperfect” people taking up a huge part of our population,
why didn’t we imagine them dancing? "
This speech was aimed to tackle and raise awareness of the inequality in dance brought about by stereotypes of body image. The speech was given in October of 2021 at the WSDA Original Oratory competition and scored first place in the high school division.
