Elite: Dangerous – very rare Herbig Ae/Be star
Seen here is the blinding light from a Herbig Ae/Be star. These are young proto-stars, in the gravitational contraction stage, which have yet to enter the main sequence. They are still embedded in gas-dust envelopes and are sometimes accompanied by circumstellar disks. We entered a small asteroid field near this one. Herbigs are extremely rare – only a handful have been discovered in the Milky Way galaxy. They are named after U.S. astronomer George Herbig, who first distinguished them from other stars in 1960.
