The Izmir Fire of 1922, or as it is called in foreign sources, the Great Fire of Smyrna – although the accuracy of this term is debatable given that Izmir has experienced other major fires in the past – was a fire that started in Basmane on September 13, 1922, and lasted for four days, extensively destroying the city center of Izmir (especially the area then known as the Izmir International Fairgrounds).
