Beloved teacher and Institute Professor Harold ‘Doc’ Edgerton S.M. ’27 Sc.D. ‘31 is celebrated in a memorial tribute that showcases his humor, insatiable scientific curiosity and revolutionary accomplishments in the fields of high-speed photography and underwater sonar instrumentation. In his own words culled from interviews and classroom lectures over the years, ‘Doc’ describes his moments of discovery and his myriad experiences in the field. Many of his famous high-speed and multi-flash photographs and excerpts of research videos illustrate the range of applications of the tools he developed. He sums up his life philosophy with the words, “Word like hell, tell everyone everything you know, close a deal with a handshake, and have fun.”
