Black Brothers, is a well-known West Papuan band from Jayapura. The band consists of five members, led by Andy Ayamiseba. Their music, sung in the Tok Pisin language, and originally in Indonesian, incorporates influences from various musical genres and political elements that inspired the Black Brothers as a Movement for Free Papua.
The group went into voluntary exile in Vanuatu in 1979, protesting Indonesia's policies in West Papua. They then moved to Papua New Guinea.
The Black Brothers were the most popular band in West Papua & New Guinea during the 1980s. The reggae influence of the Black Brothers influenced various other musical groups in West Papua and Papua New Guinea.
