Freak Power offers a place for artists and creatives to be locally and independently published with little to no oversight from the publisher. We're aiming to address the simple but profound problem artists face today; if they're not a celebrity, they're not getting recognized. If they're not chasing likes and followers and bending their art out of shape to churn it into "content", they're not getting recognized. With such an magnetic attraction to social media, young artists search for validation in essentially gigantic corporate chat forums that are indifferent to them, seeking depth in a shallow pool. The corporations that own these sites now have a sophisticated idea of how the internet works. They want to feed you the idea that you can be an influencer, if only you steer your content towards the safe and marketable and popular.
We forget sometimes that art (not just pretty pictures, ART) is made by people, who POST it online. The process between the human and the work of art to create something incredible will never change. And we want to bolster that relationship in our community, and get people recognized outside of their phones.
