When people think of Barcelona, they usually picture Gaudí’s architecture and the bustling city center. But just a short trip outside the city, and you’ll find charming little seaside towns everywhere.
Water sports there are a must-try experience for anyone visiting Barcelona.
One of the best spots is Castelldefels, just a 20-minute train ride from the city center. Here, you can enjoy a variety of water activities at the Canal Olímpic, a kayak venue built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and along the 8km-long beach that stretches to nearby Gavà Mar.
From water jumping parks, kayaking, rowing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, windsurfing, kite surfing, sailing, to snorkeling… there are so many activities you won’t easily find elsewhere.
Both the Canal Olímpic and the beach have well-maintained paths for inline skating and biking. A round trip along the beach is about 16km, and for those who love cycling on trails, the hills behind the beach offer great mountain biking opportunities.
If you’re looking for a unique experience while traveling in Barcelona, Castelldefels is a spot you definitely don’t want to miss.
