A combination of collaboration and simulation led to the installation of a sustainable rainwater drainage system, which doubles as a noise barrier, in Copenhagen, Denmark. In this video, the COMSOL team interviewed four key members of the multidisciplinary urban planning team who helped make this dual system a reality: Marina Jensen, a professor of landscape architecture and planning at the University of Copenhagen; Tim Larsen, a simulation specialist and founder of TL-Engineering; Vibe Gro, co-owner of PileByg; and Kristoffer Ulbak, a civil engineer and hydraulics specialist. Simulation played an important role in the creation of this multipurpose structure, as it allowed for the analysis of the structure's critical strength requirements. With structural analysis, the team was able to ensure that the system's final design would be able to withstand heavy wind loads, rainfall, and snow and ice storms. Additionally, simulation provided the team with a concrete way to view and showcase the evolution of the system's many designs throughout its development stage.
