“Nebel zieht in dichten Schwaden
übers Moor von Forrest Hill.
Grün-gespenstisch grinst ein Irrlicht.
Es ist Nacht in Baskerville.
Wer verbreitet Angst und Schrecken,
Wer vernichtet was er will?
Jeder sucht sich zu verstecken
Vor dem Hund von Baskerville.
Wen er anfällt, dieser Hund von Baskerville,
oh yeah,
Hat verloren in dem Kampf um Baskerville,
oh, yeah.
Und es traut sich keine Seele
In das dunkle Moor hinein,
Jeder zittert um sein Leben,
Wer wird wohl der Nächste sein?
Bald ist die Mission beendet,
Die sein irrer Herr ihm gab,
Lautlos, wie er einst gekommen,
Schleicht er sich ins Moor hinab.
Nebel zieht in dichten Schwaden
übers Moor von Forrest Hill.
Und verbirgt des Rätsels Frage
Um den Hund von Baskerville.”

In 1970 Cindy & Bert, actually popular for successful light German pop music (”Schlager”), performed a German version of “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath as a tribute to Arthur Conan Doyles’ famous creation. For my video I combined some scenes from the 1939 version starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce and from the 1983 version starring Ian Richardson and Donald Churchill.
My English translation:
"Fog draws in dense swaths
over the moor of Forrest Hill.
A will-o'-the-wisp grins green and ghostly,
It's night at Baskerville.
Who spreads fear and terror,
who destroys whatever he wants?
Everbody tries to hide
from the Hound of the Baskervilles.
Whoever is attacked by that Hound of the Baskervilles,
oh yeah,
has lost the struggle for Baskerville,
oh, yeah.
And there's not a single soul
that dares to enter that dark moor.
Everyone fears for his life,
who will be the next one?
Soon the mission is completed,
which his insane master gave him.
Silently, as he once had come,
he sneaks back down into the moor.
Fog draws in dense swaths
over the moor of Forrest Hill
and hides the riddle's questions
of the Hound of the Baskervilles."
