Considering that the impedance Z = R+jX, where R is the resistance and X is the reactance, be it capacitive or inductive.
Z = R+j0 if the branch contains only a resistor.
Z= R+jXL when the branch contains a resistor and an inductor
Z = R+jXc when the branch contains a resistor and a capacitor.
