"Water" is about swimming, drowning, getting lost at sea.
It all started from three notes of marimba that I couldn’t get out of my head. It sounded muffled, like something you would hear underwater. But it also felt nostalgic and reminded me of those peaceful moments chilling out by the sea, that always ended too soon.
With all those synthetic sounds waving back and forth, I tried to represent everything that comes to my mind about Water: something beautiful in which your mind can wander… until you disappear into turbulent waves.
In 2017, I made a long trip in Japan with my girlfriend. We visited Okinawa and decided to spend 4 days in Zamami, a small island in the Pacific Ocean, near Okinawa.
We couldn't stay more than one night as a typhoon was about to strike the island and we couldn’t camp there any longer. But we still had enough time to shoot more than 2 hours of video content while snorkeling in the wonderful waters of the island.
I recently found those takes in the depths of a hard drive disk. They were perfect to match this track.
I wrote a program that edits all those takes because it was too hard for me to choose the best parts of them.
Randomly edited, with many glitches, this video represents our experience in Zamami Island: an intense moment that fades away with time, but will stay forever in our hearts and minds.
