THE GIRL AT THE CUPOLA (1912)- Kathlyn Williams, Charles Clary, Thomas Commerford
An established actress on the theater circuit, Kathlyn Williams joined Chicago based Selig Studios in 1908, producing countless one reelers and rising to be one of Selig’s biggest stars. A year after this short was produced, Williams would star in the world’s first cliffhanger serial titled “The Adventures of Kathlyn''. This one reel drama is interesting today for a number of reasons- for one, Selig shorts, especially ones starring Kathlyn Williams are exceedingly rare. It also serves as an important social document, showing a subject still relevant today- labor laws and union strikes. Here it is with my accompaniment, enjoy!
