Territorial Showdown: The Koklass Pheasant's Powerful Call!
This is the Koklass Pheasant, a beautiful Himalayan bird with a raucous call reverberating in the forest. The best time to study and film them is to reach their habitat before the day breaks, set up gear, and wait patiently and silently. Just before the daybreak, the birds start calling from their perches in the trees.
Koklass is a large and timid partridge-like pheasant of high-to-mid-altitude forests. Males have a silver-plumed body, maroon breast stripe, white neck patch, and dark greenish-black head topped with a long crest. Females are streaky brown with a faded version of the male’s white patch and breast stripe; note her short crest, buff eyebrow, and white throat bordered by dark.
