Just recently, Ronan Collins shared his insights on the Building Stories podcast implementing digital engineering solutions for construction projects. Here are 5 key steps any business can take:

𝟭. 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 & 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Pinpoint where your business is bleeding money and find digital solutions to stop the haemorrhage. Avoid falling into the solution in search of a problem trap.

𝟮. 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀: Test small projects with new tech like software, drones, or 360 cameras in specific areas. Think plant rooms or steelwork assemblies.

𝟯. 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺: Identify your keen learners. Give them the resources and autonomy to play with digital tools. These will be your champions. Set clear objectives and see what sticks.

𝟰. 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗽: If your pilot works, expand it. If it doesn’t, pivot and try something new. Continuous R&D keeps you ahead.

𝟱. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Invest in your younger team members by giving them projects and budgets to manage. This hands-on experience will pay off in the long run, preparing them for future leadership roles.

Ronan aptly says, “We’re not going back to ink pens and tracing paper.”

A huge thank you to the incredible hosts, Luke Johnson & Michael Clothier for the opportunity to be one of their early guests. In this episode, we explore a variety of topics.

1. What are the most significant challenges in adopting BIM and digital tools in the construction industry?

2. How can the younger generation be effectively trained to embrace and utilize new technologies?

3. What impact will cloud technology, remote working, and data analytics have on the future of the construction industry?

While having some light hearted banter, we took the opportunity to discuss my journey in the construction industry, the challenges I’ve faced, and my insights into the future of digital engineering and BIM. I truly enjoyed our conversation and the deep dive into the ever-evolving landscape of construction technology.

Listen, wherever you get your podcasts and let us know in the comments below if we address these topics. I hope you find our discussions engaging and insightful.
