In a free society, all citizens must be able to pursue their own paths, set their own goals, and think for themselves, even if such ideas or plans are unpopular or simply defy logic. Free speech is linked to human flourishing. And such free speech is hardly free. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have given their lives to protect freedoms such as this. Today, those who
squelch free speech in the West are not external armies but those in positions of power in Big Tech, Big Finance, Big Media others who value subjectivity and political correctness. So, what is a person with a contrarian opinion do? This is one of the potential benefits of decentralized platforms, which are digital protocols distributed across a network rather than
consolidated with a single entity. They mitigate, and potentially solve, the problem of censorship because no single authority stands above them, and gives the thumbs up or thumbs down. They’re held up by the community itself. Our panel will discuss these issues and technologies.
