Getting a 'stored' motorcycle back up & running
As a motorcycle mechanic I regularly get asked to 'take a look' at bikes that won't start. Often they have been parked up for months, sometimes years. Unless prepared for storage a number of problems can develop which can prevent the engine from firing up.
Stale fuel is often to blame, going 'off' in the float bowl of the carburetor and sometimes the fuel tank too if stored for more than 6 months. The battery too can discharge and, due to corrosion on the plates, refuse to re-charge resulting in its replacement.
Tyres too can loose pressure, sometimes perish too and spokes can loose tension. Engine oil can become contaminated by moisture, air filters can block up or disintegrate causing a great heap of problems for the carb.
So, in this video you'll see me get my trusty KTM640 Lc4 Supamoto back up and running after been neglected at the back of the garage for over 5 months. House moves, work commitments and numerous other excuses kept me from riding these past few months.....yes, I hate myself too!
