1. Open CMD as administrator. Type slmgr / ipk PF9TR-KNB98-T7JPF-TWF8W-F3G7C
2. Disable the network connection
3. Go activation windows and click on "ON". You will see an error
4. Press the "Activate by phone"
5. Call microsoft and enter the ID numbers and codes will be issued to fill in the boxes A to H
6. If you ask the number of the computer, press button 1 (ie a single processor).

If you are a sad Windows 8 user who cannot connect to the Internet because of work restrictions or any other unfortunate restriction, you would think that you could do it via telephone. In Windows 7, it works great, but not the case with Windows 8 . It must be because this is not a finished product yet. The "use phone" option is always grayed out. Activator would try to connect to the Internet and give up after a while.
You cannot customize Windows (not even change the desktop wallpaper) without activating. Gah! Instead of implementing these useless restrictions, why not put some effort to make it (look) more polished?
Anyways, you don't have to worry because there is a workaround.
Go to Run (windows key + r) and type the following command and press enter.
slui 4
It will show up the usual phone (4 denotes phone) activation dialog (slui). After that it is same as Windows 7.

Forgot to mention one thing. The phone activation method happens like follows. You have to dial the phone number and the woman would ask you to enter the product key in groups of 6 digits at a time. The product key is shown on the activation UI and it is not the same as the serial/CD key. It must be some derivative of that. Anyways, up until Windows 8, each group had 6 digits and you had to enter 9 groups, so 54 digits in total. In Windows 8 (at least in Release Preview), there are 7 digits in a group (thus 63 digits in total), but the woman still tells you to enter them in groups of 6 (maybe they fixed it in RTM). It must be because they haven't updated it yet to meet the final product, but if you insert them in groups of 7, it works. Just ignore the woman. (aren't we always doing that? XD)
