Sanaa Moussa was born in Deir al-Asad village, in the Upper Galilee of occupied Palestine, to a family that is steeped in music.

Her father is a well known musician and singer who professed at singing folkloric songs of Syria, Egypt and Iraq. That was the trigger for Sana's connection to classical Arabic music and in particular the Palestinian folk.
Sana's songs can be categorized under Classic genre, as she strives to preserve folkloric singing and pass it across generations through her musical performance “Ishraq”. Ishraq is a musical performance that combines a collection of songs passed down through generations of Palestinian women. These songs are distinct in their form and content; they are expressive monologues depicting important moments of Palestinian history as well as emotions relating to daily life from the perspective of Palestinian women.

Safar Barlek

The song describes the period of compulsory military conscription during the Ottoman Empire in Palestine. Mothers used to bid farewell to their sons who left by land or by sea, hoping they would return alive. Often their hope was simply a deception
