Picking up where we left off in part 1, in this Lightstream we will examine shamanism in the context of the modern world. This is a touchy subject, as many are of the opinion that these traditions are not meant to be adapted to time, culture, or circumstance. While it is true that preserving traditions and the knowledge they embody is important, adapting practices according to context and improving techniques by integrating new perspectives and tools is essential to the vitality of any practice. We will consider what finding the appropriate balance looks like, and the advantages of creating syncretic systems.
I will also offer some support for this approach from the realm of the sciences. There have been a number of paradigm shifting developments in recent weeks that directly relate to this topic.
