About this video: If you're looking for the best OptiFine settings for Minecraft 1.21, this video is perfect for you! We walk you through every step of optimizing your 1.21.1 Minecraft OptiFine settings, so you can boost FPS and enjoy smoother gameplay. Our goal with this video is to give you the best FPS possible in Minecraft. From there, you can increase render distance or change graphic settings depending on exactly what you are looking for.
To get started, you will need to download and install OptiFine 1.21.1. There is a complete guide on getting OptiFine in the description above that covers absolutely everything you need to know to get it installed.
After you have OptiFine, we are actually going to get started in the Minecraft Launcher. Here, go to "Installations" at the top, and find your OptiFine Installation. Click three dots on it, and select "Edit". Scroll down and click "More Options". Under "JVM Arguments", and you will see "-Xmx" with a number and "G" or "M" next to it. This is how much RAM Minecraft has. Generally, changing this to "4G", and thus dedicating 4GB to Minecraft, this is usually enough for OptiFine even with shaders and can increase performance.
From there, play Minecraft and go to "Options" and "Resource Packs". Using none will give you the best FPS, but with these settings, you'll still be able to use resource packs without drastically affecting performance.
Moving on to the "Video Settings", you should set Graphics to Fast, Render Distance to 12 chunks, and Simulation Distance to 5. Turn off Entity Shadows and Dynamic Lights. Shaders should be completely disabled for maximum FPS.
Under the Quality settings, turn off Mipmap Levels, set Mipmap Type to Nearest, and disable Emissive Textures. While Random Entities should remain on, turn Better Grass to Fast, and make sure Better Snow and Custom Colors are enabled. Customize the FOV and Distortion Effects to your liking. Leaving these on can help when adding a resource pack later of if you are getting a lot of FPS in Minecraft.
In the Detail settings, set Clouds and Rain & Snow to Fast and turn off the Sky and Stars. You can leave Trees on Smart, and adjust the Sun & Moon, Swamp Colors, and Entity Distance to your preference. Vignette should be set to Fast, and View Bobbing can be adjusted based on your preference as it doesn't affect Minecraft's performance.
The Performance settings are crucial for getting high FPS in Minecraft 1.21.1. Make sure to enable Render Regions, Fast Render, Smart Animations, Fast Math, and Smooth FPS. To see the maximum FPS your system can achieve, leave Smooth FPS and Smooth World off initially, and only turn them on after checking your FPS. Set Chunk Updates to 1 and enable Dynamic Updates and Lazy Chunk Loading for better chunk rendering.
In the Animations settings, we recommend turning off all animations for the best performance, but feel free to enable specific ones like water or lava if your FPS allows. Lastly, under the Other settings, turn on Show FPS and adjust other options like Autosave and Weather based on your needs.
With that, you now know the best OptiFine settings for Minecraft 1.21.1. If you have any questions about using OptiFine in Minecraft 1.21.1, let us know in the comments.
