I encountered this specific Japanese version PSX game, Ore No Ryouri, which lacks control functionality, unlike all the other games that work perfectly. It appears that this game is designed specifically for the DualShock controller, and the controller type must be set to "Dual Shock Controller" in Batocera (RetroArch backend).
