Rally for the Right to Read: Voters Unite Against Book Bans
The 2024 Rally for the Right to Read was held June 28, 2024, at the ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition in San Diego to highlight anti-censorship activities from around the nation and celebrate the 2024 recipients of ALA’s signature intellectual freedom awards, including a Freedom to Read Foundation special citation to Virginia Girl Scout Kate Lindley in recognition of her Gold Award Project, “Free to Read.” Nationally renowned writer, cultural critic, and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Hanif Abdurraqib delivered a powerful keynote address to an enthusiastic audience.
