This video is a step by step how to guide and instructional video for making a simple hyper casual mobile/web game. Follow along and you will learn how to create a game project, setup multiple screens with buttons and transitions, create simple game mechanics with animations, detect collisions between objects, setup a scoring system, increase the difficulty of the game, add sound effects and much more. I use Affinity Designer as my vector design tool of choice for creating game art and UI graphics. These type of games use very simple graphics so if you don't have access to paid software, most free vector design software such as Inkscape, Krita, Vectr, Photopea and others will work perfectly. For development I use the Defold game engine. Defold is a 100% free and open source 2D & 3D game engine. It is lightweight, very easy to use and great for beginners who want to learn game development. Defold is completely cross platform and games can be published on Android, iOS, macOS, Linux, Windows, Steam, HTML5, Facebook and Nintendo Switch. Unity is usually the top choice for game development (and it is very good), but after trying many game engines over the years including Unity, Defold is currently my personal favorite. A hyper-casual game is a video game which is easy-to-play and usually free-to-play. They feature very minimalistic designs and user interfaces. Popularized by game makers such as Kwalee, Ketchapp and Voodoo, these games can be quickly played after downloading, usually without the need of a tutorial or instructions. Some popular examples include Flappy Bird, Color Switch, Knife Hit, Rise Up, Helix Jump, Snake vs Colors, Dunk Shot, Stack etc. They use a 2D or very simple 3D design with a basic color scheme adding to their simplicity. Usually featuring infinite looped mechanics, hyper-casual games are playable for an infinite amount of time, leading to their addictive nature.
