The Guv - The North is Calling
I wrote “The North is Calling” during a recent session at the Abbey Road Studios, as we experimented on some ideas for the mix of our new song, Lioness, when I found myself drawn to a Yamaha upright piano in the room.
The song, perhaps unintentionally, evokes memories of Bob Ross, the exceptionally talented painter whose shows I watched as a kid on our local TV station. Sadly, Bob passed away too soon, leaving behind his timeless artwork. Like one of his paintings depicting a winter landscape, which simultaneously gives me feelings of peace and a poignant sense of solitude.
Recorded in a single, raw take, this piano demo quickly evolved as I recorded the vocals, Burak Kahraman worked his magic in production, Oli Morgan expertly assisted with stem-mastering.
