A little known artefact of the history of the Atari Lynx is visually uncovered in this video.
My factual source (aside from the obvious design allowances for a tape drive), is the official Atari Lynx Developer Documentation, which is still available online, and makes several mentions of the magnetic tape load option that never came to fruition in a commercial product.
