In this week's Wayside Voices Facebook Live, Pastor & CEO Jon Owen was joined by two long-time friends of Wayside: Liz Gal and Josh Macey, for a conversation about their previous experiences with homelessness, how they found a new direction in life, and the lessons they learned along the way.
About Liz Gal:
Liz Gal had a life that many of us can only imagine in bad dreams, a life she thought might end before she turned 30. Instead, Liz found an inner strength she didn’t know she had, and now uses her experience to support others. Turning her life into a powerful narrative she works at a systemic level to fundamentally change the way society approaches the issue of substance dependence. She is a compelling advocate for change, and for a holistic and healing approach in working with people who experience substance dependence. Liz has also recently started a coaching business working with women who, like her, have experienced soul shattering adversity and are ready to make positive changes in their lives.
About Josh Macey:
Josh Macey started experienced homelessness when he was just 18 years old. Trauma and grief led Josh to begin sleeping on the streets. He would come and seek support from Wayside Chapel and became part of our community. A moment of turning changed Josh's life. He began to volunteer and help out at places that had supported him including Wayside Chapel, the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC) and Kirketon Road Centre. Josh is now housed and excited to be moving in a new direction with his life.
